The Scientific Eye

I found some extremely cool scanning electron micrographs of crystals, bacteria, virii, fungi, and so forth at The Eye of Science. The magnification ranges from moderate (x5 or so) to extreme (x1500).

I admit to a bias toward the unicellular, but I especially like these E. Coli. Ain't they cute?

The nasty bladderwort (Utricularia sp., see image 1 in Botany) was quite a surprise to me. I didn't know there were aquatic plants that ate insects.

And the kidney glomerulus is just... It's the way Escher would design a biological system, I swear (number 5, in Medicine).

Take a look around if you have any interest in the unseen world. Or even if you don't: this is science made beautiful.

You probably saw these at GenCon, but just in case: http://www.giantmicrobes.com/

I've got Mr. Flesh-Eating Bacteria on my desk at work. He's so cute!
