We have 801 coffee shops in LA? Where the heck are they all? I know of four in a 5 mile radius (2 Starbuck's and 2 It's A Grind); do you suppose they're counting Denny's and other chain restaurants?

Orange County? Irvine? Up in the hills?

All I know is that when sitting in the Starbucks at the U Village, I can see the Starbucks across the way. Likewise, from the Tully's on 45th I can see the Trabant Chai Lounge, and from the Top Pot I can see the little Italian espresso joint across the street.

There is literally no escape from them in Seattle. The drive-throughs are especially ubiquitous: little shacks just big enough for a barista, a fridge, and an espresso machine. They are tucked away on the asphalt of just about every gas station in town.

Gas and coffee. Of course.

Seattle does have a lot more shops per capita; I imagine with all that rain y'all need a hot custom latte pick-me-up (who'd have thought that the coffee ordering scene from LA Story would become commonplace?)

i think the count is off. what's missing from the Seatttle scene is the fact that not only is there a coffee shack on every corner, but every business seems to also have espresso. i mentioned this to a friend from NYC, and he said "even shoe stores?" and i thought about the coffee bars at Nordstrom and sighed...
