Deeply Frivolous Science

I love chemistry and physics when they pursue something deeply frivolous. Coloring soap bubbles, for example. As Popular Science puts it:
Chemical burns, ruined clothes, 11 years, half a million dollars—it's not easy to improve the world's most popular toy. Yet the success of one inventor's quest to dye a simple soap bubble may change the way the world uses color.

(A hat tip to /., of course.)

Just read that. I want some Zubbles.

I'm also eager to see what applications the new dye has on the world.

Whoa! Not only is that totally cool and I will pretend to buy some for my children while secretly agitating for its immediate use, but now I'm intrigued by the scientific breakthrough. Thanks for the link.

Thanks!

I miss Usenet. I mean, I know it's still there, somewhere, but I don't visit.
