Sometimes you luck into things. While out on house business recently, shellyinseattle and I found a cheese shop. As so often happens in Seattle, it was a magical cheese shop right under the Space Needle, all too eager to push their cheeses, wine, and Tupelo honey. How could we resist?

My knowledge of Tupelo to that point was limited to music and geography: lyrics by the Proclaimers and the alt-country band Uncle Tupelo, and some vague idea that Mississippi was involved. I've visited Mississippi once and my local guide offered to show me the house of CSA President Jefferson Davis. I declined as politely as I could.

Apparently, though, Tupelo is not just a town in Mississippi. It's also a tree common in the South. A flowering swamp tree that makes the most delicious honey in the world. "Tupelo Honey." It's got a nice ring to it.

Elvis Presley was born in Tupelo. It's about an hour southeast of Memphis.

Your Subject Line
Your subject line "I'd Say the Best One Came From Tupelo, Mississippi", doesn't that come from the song "Sean" by the Proclaimers?
Sean, I'd say the best one came from Tupelo, Mississippi
I'll tell you now that grown men cry and Irish girls are pretty
It's a father's observation on the birth of his son. Kind of appropos, eh?

Re: Your Subject Line
See, I thought I'd managed to slip that past everyone, but yes, it is the Proclaimers. I beat that cassette to death in 1988.

Good eye.

Tupelo Honey's also an album and/or song by Van Morrisson, last time I checked.

So did you and the Monkey Queen have a good Yule? Hope you have a great Christmas and the best of new years.

Who's still chuckling over Steven Colbert's referral of the alleged-by-Fox War on Christmas as Blitzen-krieg.... :)

We had a cool Yule, indeed. And plan some additional festivities this weekend.
