New Market: No Quarter

Today is "Write at John's Day", a gathering of freelancers at the Rateliff house. We're drinking tea, slurping up the neighbor's wireless, and working on various projects.

As part of the mandatory dissection of the state of the industry and our various books and projects, No Quarter magazine came up. I was surprised that people didn't know about it, so I'm mentioning it here. New gaming magazines don't come along that often, and this one has been around for three or four semi-monthly issues with great art and steadily improving articles.

No Quarter is an unabashed house magazine in the White Dwarf mold, with the same emphasis on miniatures play plus a little world-building, fiction, and RPG content on the side. It pays roughly 4 cents a word, and the contact people include Duncan Huffman (EiC), James Davis (Art Director), and Nathan Letsinger (RPG content) — no query guidelines are available that I could find online or in a recent issue.

If steamjacks, gunpowder, and full metal fantasy are your thing, this is the market for you.

Yep, they are on Market St in Ballard.

Actually the Seattle Gaming Mafia is huge: Microsoft Games Studios, Hasbro/WotC, the XBox group, Cranium, Paizo, NCSoft, Malhavoc, WizKids, Nintendo of America, Green Ronin, and Cheapass Games. And I few I've probably blanked on.

Must be the coffee.
