Five Fingers

I got the author copy of the Five Fingers: Port of Deceit sourcebook that will be out at Origins: it's turned out very well indeed, with excellent flavor and history by Doug Seacat and rules by yours truly. I especially enjoy the narration of each section by a different citizen of the town; no one does useful, engaging fluff like Privateer Press.

My contributions were in rules for chases, bribes, gambling, gang warfare, the Malefactor of Thamar prestige class, and so on, plus stats and descriptions of the High Captains and a few other notables. Oh, and I introduced the low captains as well. But mostly I did crunch, plus I adapted bits of Roguish Luck for the Iron Kingdoms setting. Seeing d20 material revised and adapted from one publisher to another is still all too rare.

There's a good look at the cover on the Privateer site. It's a fine city book for freebooters, more in the mold of Lankhmar or Freeport than, say, Waterdeep.

Ah, Lankhmar.

I love that setting.

So do I. And yet, it never went anywhere in RPG terms.

Thieves' World took all the urban attitude players, and then Shadowrun. I may need to reread "Ill Met in Lankhmar". So very fine.

So very true. That story in particular is a classic.

I have nearly all of Leiber's stuff floating around at my parents' house on a bookshelf somewhere. It's all very entertaining.

The cover looks lovely - the dramatic lighting really helps that moody feel. Hope it sells well for you guys!

Thanks, the cover is by Brian Matt Wilson. He's done great work for years in that "full metal fantasy" style that pretty much defines Privateer.

I heard great things about the art in Apotheosis, but I still haven't seen a copy to judge for myself.

Argh, something else on my must buy list on Friday at Origins! *sigh* :)
