Happy Belated 4th

We ran around yesterday afternoon, keeping the engines of commerce well-oiled (we bought a new stove and a couch, on sale). However, the bike shop did not have the Trek bike I wanted to ride, so no love there. I fear the summer will pass me by and I'll get one in the fall.

We spent the evening with Jeff and Kate at the house, grilling copious veggies and gigantic steaks. It was low-key. Very low-key. We played Torres and took a spin around the park, finishing off a half-played game of chess at the park's board with its lovely giant plastic chessmen. Learned what bachelor's button looks like in bloom, though the picture doesn't do it justice. A very rich blue, and mixed in fields of red poppies.

We lifted our champagne glasses and Kate made the best 4th of July toast ever: "To a more perfect Union!"

Indeed.
