Monkey King Has Voted

I voted on a paper ballot, and was struck by the age of the poll workers. Every single one was a white-haired retiree, and 11 out of 12 were women. What happens when that generation of poll workers is no more?

In any case, the booths were all full, and there was a short line. I'm always pleased to see people voting in person; it's a bit of the theatre of democracy that tickles me.

Filling in the ballot was the easy part, of course. Waiting for the early returns from the East Coast is going to take some electoral fortitude. Anyone got a line on Internet exit polls?

I'm interested to see whether the number of people voting continues to go up ths year, or if that was just a by product of 2004's elecion.

I can't vote down here, but I watch the results with interest and apprehension each year.

I noticed the same thing earlier, about poll workers being seniors. It kind of made me ask the question of why they were nearly all seniors.

because they aren't at work? i think the key to this is that retirees are able to volunteer their time without losing income. i'm sure it's the kind of thing i'll do when i don't have a job. i suspect that the young ladies mentioned below are students.

Seniors also vote at a higher rate than the general population, so there's that connection to the electoral process as well.

Yeah, there was a young gentleman when I voted in the primaries; he was notable just for his youth.

But he wasn't there today.

Ah you get to watch returns come in. I instead get to play Steam and Brass. I think we both win.

Snort! He is a bit of a bastard, it's true.

I'd be interested to see a writeup sometime. And have fun with it.
