A Prayer for Texas

Sometimes, I just have to wish that Texas were a whole 'nother country. Like now, with the new law giving time for daily prayers in school. What the heck is wrong with the Texas legislature?

It's certainly behaving like one.

What's wrong is that they apparently haven't read the Constitution separating church and state. To which I say "Hel-LO!" Sheesh. Were I a Texas resident, I'd be all over my representatives about this. I grumble in concert with you.

In whose name?
Just went and actually read the article. The little book the article is reporting on assumes the reader will be Christian. How...sweet. When exactly was it that the US became an officially Christian country?

*sigh*

Re: In whose name?
Oddly enough, this problem is an old one.

The Joseph Campbell book I read over the weekend is a collection of his diaries from around 1954-1955, when he was in India and Japan. Much of his commentary is remarkably applicable to today's US Government. Christian schools and universities in Occupied Japan got big funds from the US; so did national universities. Only one group was left out: the Shinto and Buddhist universities. US policy was pretty heavily slanted then, too.

When? Every minute non-Christians stay silent on the matter. I think Xians only feel comfortable in numbers. If they feel they are 99% of everything, they can do anything without consequences.

It's getting me upset.

In Memphis, they used to try to lead prayers, but it was ruled they couldn't. So instead, we were given a "moment of silence" to pray to ourselves.

Yay religious bullshit!
