Two Wheel Flying

Rode the bike in this morning. Am now contemplating the shocking notion that I will need to ride it back.

Still hoping to buy an ordinary, aka penny farthing. I'm getting one of those or a tattoo when I finish Tales of Zobeck. Considering that a penny farthing replica costs $2500 (the brass plating is not optional for me), I'm thinking the tattoo is more likely.

Maybe a tattoo OF a penny farthing?

LOL! Yeah. Or a replica the size of a Christmas ornament.

I read it as a tattoo of a penny farthing anyway but then again, I've only just woken up and am still sleepy!

How far have you gone on your bike? My journey is 4 miles to the train station each morning and back in the evening. It nearly killed me the first few times...

My standard round trip is about 6.5 miles each way, with a big hill in the middle. I'm a little out of shape after the winter, but it went really well.

Biking back in the dark was a bit of an adventure, in a fun way. Nothing like ripping down a head and overshooting your headlight.

What's the short list for tattoo options?

The list of tattoo options changes frequently. A few recent ideas:

  • The Lion of St Mark (which just looks cool)
  • the coat of arms of Zobeck
  • a hedgehog, though I haven't found art I like for this one
  • and given Stan!'s suggestion, a penny farthing.

I wish my last name translated into something.

If I'm not mistaken, "Baur" means farmer (or is some derivation thereof).

Ever thought about getting something to signify your name?

Maybe, a stylized ploughshare (or sickle) and an ornate stylus/fountain pen together - representing you and your family name, and the evolution from farmer to writer?

Hm. Now I'm kind of jealous. :D

You could probably contact a local welder with a tube bender and have it made for a fraction of that.

Probably. I suspect that just hammering together the shape isn't the whole deal, but yeah, that price seems insanely high. Part of it has to be casting the iron frame into the reproduction shape...
