Housebound

I'm starting to suspect that Seattle has moved through a spatial dislocation to, oh, Minnesota.

The additional snow we got last night has pushed us over a foot of snow in Kirkland. The airport is closed. Half of the bus routes have been canceled. Ice made a nice heavy crust on the snow I shoveled last night.

Truth be told, I don't mind the shoveling too much. It reminds me of the Midwestern winters I miss (when I'm not actually going out in -10 or -20 degree weather). The snow is a perfect white layer at first. Then, after shoveling, it's a perfect white layer with a huge gouge out of it. Always seem a shame, but it's gotta be done, and in a little while, the wind and more snowfall take the edges off it.

It's very beautiful outside, with frosted trees and bluish predawn light. I'm not going anywhere for a while, though, because I have to shovel the drive again.

Wow - you guys are getting a lot more snow than we are, but I don't think people would like the dislocation to Minnesota right now. The entire Midwest is in a deep-freeze. Even Kansas hasn't risen above 0°F with windchill for a week.

Brrrr.

But a foot of snow in the Northwest? Freakish.

Well now, isn't that special. Enjoy your shoveling and your "free" time. Hopefully Adobe hasn't given you any more fits.
