Retail Me Not

One of the summer jobs I had many years ago was working in a coupon redemption center. It was a fairly lame, pre-Internet sort of job: Open envelopes, take receipts and coupons out, sort them. Pretty mindless. But it did drive home to me over the course of a month-long temp job that there was a LOT of money in this coupon thing.

I went off and spent 10 years forgetting that little lesson, but it's come back to me the last couple years in internet form.

The Retail Me Not coupon discount site will amaze you if you want to save money at 20,000 retailers. Whenever I want a discount, they provide one, for car rentals, Amazon, electronics, you name it.

It's free money, folks. Don't say I never did nuthin' for ya.

Funny Story Time-
I'm a cashier at a store belonging to a large retail chain. Having thrived for decades as a purely mail-order enterprise, this company is heavy on marketing via direct-mailing catalogs, sale fliers, and coupon books.

The thing is, they mail these things out almost three weeks before a given sale, and our customers are too blind and/or ignorant to actually look at the dates printed on them. And boy, oh boy, do they get indignant when they can't get the $0.05 discount that they drove a whole 30 miles to get. *twitch*
