My NorWesCon Itinerary

lemuria reminds me that the con season is almost here, so here's my schedule for NorWesCon, which is April 9 to 12 at the Sea-Tac Doubletree hotel. I'll be a guest for the first time, or at least for the first time since I left WotC.

And the gaming panels have certainly grown. I'm absolutely thrilled (and mildly terrified) to be on a panel with Gordon van Gelder. And two of the panels below fill me with pure, bomb-throwing glee; I just know I'm going to be the contra-panelist.

THURSDAY
Writing-for-Hire 9:00 PM Cascade 13

What do you give up when you write-for-hire? What areas of science fiction and fantasy writing will only let you work in a write-for-hire capacity and what should you do about it?
Janna Silverstein, Wolfgang Baur

FRIDAY
Playing God, Part II: Gods and Religion 8:00 PM Cascade 8

Part of world building is designing the pantheon responsible for the whole thing. Our game experts discuss how they go about filling the cosmos with deities worthy of a hero’s worship, and how they manage to stay upright on such a slippery slope as religion in gaming.
Erik Mona, Wolfgang Baur, Sean Reynolds, Jeff Grubb

SATURDAY
Game Master’s Workshop Pt 2 Noon Cascade 9

Advanced Lessons: plot, setting, character are all discussed in detail. Techniques covered will include the TPK – what it is and why do it, manipulating players to manipulate their characters, meta-gaming, and handling problems that develop.
Clint Whiteside, Andy Collins, Dylan S., Jason Buhlman, Wolfgang Baur

How to Start a Magazine…and Why You Shouldn't 1:00 PM Cascade 9
So, you need a business plan and seed money, and (oh yeah) readers. Plus you need to create? exploit? a new niche in the market, so you seem fresh and relevant , Are you sure you've got what it takes?
Patrick Swenson, Gordon van Gelder, Bluejack, Wolfgang Baur

I’m not dead yet…..sticking with 3.5 3:00 PM Evergreen 2
Not thrilled with the new edition? Stop by this panel where prominent gamers and industry professionals share options for sticking with 3.5 via Pathfinder, True20, or other 3.5 variants. Learn how to get involved in organized play events, find other gamers, and keep playing the game.
Wolfgang Baur, Jason Buhlman, Darrin Drader, Chris Pramas, Sean Reynolds

Monster Update 5:00 PM Cascade 10
The Creature from the Black Lagoon is set to rise again, Twilight gave a new look for vampires, and the Wolfman gets a new makeover – what classic monster would you like to see get a fresh new treatment?
Lorelei Shannon, Phil Brualette, Andrew Migliore, Wolfgang Baur

See you at the big show!

Any chance of a transcript? Or jotting down the best questions? Playing god and GM's Workshop, pt2 both look really good. :) Lots of experience talking there, I guess that's what you get by being the local convention!

No hope of a transcript from me; I'll be too busy gabbing and trying to keep up with my fellow sharp-witted panelists.

But if someone does snag it, twitter it, or otherwise record it, I'll post a link.

If Monte were on that panel, it would be all my favourite designers!
