Amazon recommends using Mobigen, to create the files. Mobipocket is a related app.

Ooooh, Kindle! Yes, you need Mobipocket Creator, which will convert a PDF or Doc to kindle readable documents.

Oddly, that's not the converter that Amazon recommends.

Yeah, well Amazon's converter sucks. I don't know if there's a third party converter they recommend in addition to whatever they use, but if it works like their's, I say avoid it.

Mobipocket Creator is free and super easy to use. Plus, you can edit the file's metadata to properly display title and author. Amazon's "service" displays your e-mail and the file's meta-title na matter what you try to name it.

Not to mention, the files created with MC can be read on any Kindle (unless you specifically select to add DMR), so if you want your manuscript to go to your beta readers, and they have Kindles....easy.

Ah, I see, you are doing this for your magazine! I say check out MC - it has a ton of options that might make conversion and distribution fairly easy. I don't know how it handles graphics, however, but if you wanted a test subject, both dthon and I have them. :)

ETA: Also, mobipocket files (PRC) aren't just readable on the Kindle. There are other ereaders out there compatible with the format.

The new Kindle DX is supposed to have PDF support...

I'm salivating over it... Just the thought of having all my D&D books on the Kindle...

Yeah, but the price at $500 is a bit tough to take. If you buy one, I'd love to hear a review.

If you buy me one, I'll happily write a review!

Sadly, I don't think a kindle's in my future any time soon...

Am I reading this right? Are you saying it will be either Kindle or no KQ, at all? Or are you looking to produce KQ on both formats?

I'm just messing around with the Kindle format right now. No idea whether it is worth going with them; both formats are optimized for tiny screens and minimal graphics, so.... Maybe not a great fit for a magazine with big maps and illustrations.

Might be better for other books.
