XBox Party

Last night's XBox party was a success, with nibowl, sumbunall, shteevie, and Steven all playing some Soul Calibur II, Gauntlet, PGR2, Quantum Redshift, Crimson Skies, and Halo. I did well at the racers and Crimson Skies, less well at Halo and Calibur. For next time, shteevie recommended Phantom Crash; can anyone vouch for this game before I blow money on it?

My slow-cooked jambalaya turned out okay — or at least, the pot was emptied in record time, and no one complained. The beer was cold.

I learned two important things about Xbox parties. First, that Crimson Skies and PGR2 both allow you to have only one guest on Live with you, unlike MotoGP2, which allows 3 guests. Bummer. As a result, we skipped out on the Live portion of the party. Instead, we played almost all the co-op games I own.

Second, with a split-screen and a limited number of controllers, it's best to keep the group as small as possible. Next time, I may invite less folks, or just invite one buddy and make the party online using the headsets. I still want to experiment with connecting to the Chicago folks.

Oddly, all that gaming makes me wonder if I'll ever work in the games biz full-time again. Maybe not.

Fun times had by all
You forgot to mention the fresh/hot chocolate chip cookies made by your sainted wife, dude! ;)

Good jambalaya, by the by. Sorry I didn't say so yesterday. Could be most of us figured you'd gotten the hint by us going face first in our bowls and going back for seconds. :)

Join the LJ-verse… It's a giant time-sink… You know you want to…

Glad you could make it.

T'was an awesome party for sure, sir.

For Live games I'd agree with your sentiments, but as something as simple and wonderful as a split screen event I'd say that things worked out quite well. At least: I was never bored, even when not playing.

Of course, hanging out and drinking beer is more than enough for me. Video games and hot cookies are just icing on the already delicious cake.

Thank you for hosting the evening!

Re:
Glad you could make it. My frustration is partly just that normally Live is so entertaining. This is the first time it's disappointed me.

I'll be hosting another in a month or two, for sure.

Xbox party
I'd be jealous, truly, but I am currently stiff from two days going hell-for-leather skiing down Whistler, mostly in sunshine with almost unlimited visibility. Too awesome for words.

I'm planning on having a party the weekend of March 13-14th. Try to see if you can make some of that time available.
