Death of a Monitor

So the green gun on our ten-year old CRT finally up and quit, leaving the new home PC with a purplish blob of a screen. I've been hoping to buy an LCD monitor for some time, but the cost dissuaded me. Now I'm pretty much stuck buying something this weekend.

I'm considering both a SGI 1600SW Wide LCD Flat Panel, which requires a special graphics card to run the proprietary hardware, or a Sony Stylepro SDM-S91/B. Or the Envision knockoff.

Got any good or bad experiences with LCD monitor brands? What should I be looking for, other than 25 ms response, 600:1 contrast, and decent dot pitch?

My only experience with LCDs have been the Apple monitors, which have all been fabulous without exception and we've had, let's see . . . wow, six of them over the years (one for each different model of our recent Macs).

If you could find the manufacturer of those that's what I would get without hesitation. They're brilliant, bright, sharp, and great. I can't recommend them highly enough.
