Burlesque in Seattle

Drop Dietrich onto your MP3 playlist, and see what happens.

As it turns out, a burlesque troupe was founded in Seattle last month. They call themselves glitzkrieg, and they are doing a show downtown on the 19th. I'm thinking it might be worth taking in. Has anyone seen them? Can you offer comments, or a full review? Do they offer music, comedy, and striptease, or just two out of three? Burlesque is one of those slippery terms that seems to mean different things to different people. But, regardless, I do enjoy supporting local artists.

I'm amused that in a society as sexually bipolar as the States, burlesque would make a comeback as neo-burlesque, but perhaps I shouldn't be surprised. Weimar it ain't, but there's plenty of material to skewer. And most of the topics are timeless.

In the burlesque tradition, the Seattle troupe is organized and run by women: Betty Rage, Vienna La Rouge, Roxy Shocks, Luna Sidhe, Daisy Cutter, Estella Estrange, and Violet Crush. I suspect these may may be stage names. Ahem.

Great! Assuming you don't want to post a long discussion, I'll ask you about it next time I see you.

Quite a few of the people involved with Glitzkreig are friends of mine.

I would definitely recommend going to their shows. You'll find a mixture of striptease and music, with some campy humor thrown in. :)

Ok, I guess I am the Last to Know. But it sounds like there's at least some interest in seeing their act. I'll see what they're asking for tickets on 19th.

<friend of scarlettina, if you were wondering>

I think what I'd heard was the Glitzkrieg girls were the reincarnation of the Gun Street Girls, who we've seen and were OK. More established and also worth seeing are the BurningHearts Burlesque...they've been doing shows about once a month at the Rendezvous.

Looks like if you went to the Catwalk on the 13th you'd get both!

Thanks! I used to visit the Catwalk often in the 90s, but I fell off the wagon at some point.

Of course, I'm already booked on the 13th.
