Ray Bradbury is an Idiot in Public

I hate it when supposedly smart SF authors prove themselves to be idiots in public. Ray Bradbury seems to be unaware that there is no copyright protecting titles, but he uses an interview with a Swedish magazine as an opportunity to take silly swipes at Michael Moore. I guess I can add Bradbury to the growing camp of "grumpy old SF writers I can safely ignore".

I got the pointer from Cory Doctorow at Boing Boing, which I heartily recommend. And for the locals, Doctorow is visiting Seattle on the 16th for a talk at the University. Anyone care to join me in saying hello to a rising SF star?

I'll go with you. Maybe we can arrange a post-talk visit to our favorite public house.

It's a good thing he writes beautiful prose. I've met him (escorted him around a convention) and listened to him and read him, and I prefer the arm's-length approach. Sometimes the clay feet on our heroes doesn't stop at the ankles.

Re: Bradbury
Amusingly enough, someone pointed out to me that (under his own standards) Ray needs to posthumously secure Will Shakespeare's permission for swiping "Something Wicked This Way Comes" as a title…

Tempting; I'll have to see where my time and finances are, but email me and remind me when it's happening.

I'll be in Seattle tonight with my cousin, as I've got a meeting at Sakson & Taylor in the morning. Send some luck my way around 1030 tomorrow, eh, and mayhaps I'll be gainfully employed so I can buy Doctorow's latest rather than just downloading it.
