A Cultured Evening

I did a brunch at Salty's with Dave, Shelly, Matt, and Lisa — and then decided to meet up for Hero later, Jet Li's Chinese nationalist film from a couple years ago that has finally made it over to the states. It's a beaut, with music by Itzhak Perlman, and a decent performance by Jet Li. Parts of it dragged, primarily the fight scenes, but the scenery and fairy-tale qualities more than made up for it. Well worth seeing on the big screen.

The best part of the evening for me, though, was hanging out with ironymaiden, C, Matt, Lisa, and frabjousdave afterwards. We talked opera — who knew that Carmina Burana was a collection of drinking songs? I love my erudite friends. Especially as the conversation flew from gaming to poker to publishing, with detours around the "Lake Geneva days" and on to baking and cooking. We're a well rounded bunch. And it was all helped along by some decided fine drinks, from various martinis to midori sour, to Campari and soda, to beer and bourbon, neat.

As the Crosland toast says: "Here's to us; Who's like us? Damn few, and they're all dead."

That's it; everyone has to come to Canadia with me.

If the Republicans continue to hold all three branches of government come November, it's going to be fairly appealing.

The fearmongering is getting completely out of hand.

"Parts of it dragged, primarily the fight scenes" -- dude, please go get an MRI of your nervous system ASAP! Those were some of the most beautiful scenes in the movie!

sigh,
Chris

Yeah, they were very beautiful fight scenes. But I wanted them all to be 30 seconds to 1 minute shorter.

I'm becoming a very impatient person, I guess.

Feh, perhaps this is how I differ from most people, and why I'm having trouble selling a 200,000-word novel. Hmmm. For example, I want to find the 8-hour version of Dune, and I could have watched dinosaurs running around for HOURS rather than see a stupid movie with plot that lasted 1-1/2 hours.

So I'm a freak,
Chris
