The Mullah Vote

George Bush has been endorsed for re-election by the political powers of Iran.

Let me just repeat that: IRAN ENDORSES BUSH.

Since Bush so kindly allowed the Iranians to get the Bomb while he invaded Iran's traditional enemy, I can see how they might feel they owe him one.

This would be funny if I didn't feel so much like crying in despair. You know the age-old advice they give to the new kid in school: pick the biggest bully and whip him on your first day. This administration has picked one of the weaker kids in the Middle East schoolyard to make an example of, and botched the job.

What amazes me is that this still plays well with his conservative base.

I'm not amazed. The conservative "base," beyond the self-made rich types, are not all that intellectually capable. And as the vast majority of the self-made rich types are either pure evil or utterly amoral, it doesn't matter to them as long as their short-term profits look good.

As to the mullahs pulling for Bush... well, of course they would. They recognize one of their own, right? After all, Bush is no less intellectually challenged, ultraconservative, theocratic, medievalist, and deluded than they are. Okay, maybe some of those guys aren't all that dumb, really, but they sure play the part well.

Well, I concur. I'm not really amazed. Disgusted, but not amazed.

I've been thinking about this post all weekend and I still have nothing to say. Just like you. Boggled.
