Our Dumb Nation

I occasionally sell books and CDs and games on Amazon or eBay. This last week, I got two requests for refunds that left me fuming. Allow me to explain.

The first request for a refund came from a woman who claimed that she was
totally disappointed with this order. This is NOT a new CD, it is opened and the case is broken. This was supposed to be a Christmas gift for my husband. I cannot give him this.
The whole tone of her message to me was complaint and outrage. Which would be fine except... THE ITEM WAS LISTED AS USED! That's why is was listed in the "Used" section with a "Used" label on it. And the cracked case was explicitly called out in the item's description. "Case is cracked" were the exact words I used in the item writeup to hoodwink this poor consumer.

I told her I'd give her a refund if she returned it, but couldn't cover her shipping costs. I somehow resisted calling her a complete moron.

The second request was from folks seeking to buy a game book for their nephew, a worthy cause. Their complaint was polite and factual but... weird.
Being rather naive aunts, we assumed our nephew was asking for a Dungeons and Dragons book of fantasy weapons. We had no idea he was asking for a book of realistic guns. We can't give this to him.
The name of the book they were buying was "Ultramodern Firearms", so you can see how it came as a shock to them that it wasn't a book of medieval fantasy weapons.

*sigh*

At least they were polite about it. I gave them their refund.

Saturday I'll have to ask Peter about a retranslation of Caveat Emptor....

I want one that means Stupid People Beware! in Latin. :)

Wonder if we could get ones that are NeoCons Beware as t-shirts? >:)

I think "Beware of Stupid People" might be more appropriate.

There's nothing else for it. Universal law demands you brain them all with the butts of ultramodern firearms.

Jeremy Holcomb and myself both feel for you and both got a good laugh ;)

Having sold cards online for quite a few years, I fully understand the frustration.

"I didn't order this card! I ordered a Sneak Attack and the card you sent me wasn't even a Magic card! What am I supposed to do with this card for a game I don't play?"

You are supposed to read the auction title, you dolt!
