Tree Elves and Grumpy Elves

Our dog was the sleepiest, grumpiest elf ever this morning during a packaging frenzy, but now the packages are mailed. Not a moment too soon.

On the way back from the USPS, we happened on a tree lot, and decided we need a tree this year after all. According to Northern European custom, we sacrificed some cash to the forest gods and now a solstice tree is all set up (and smelling great!) in the front room. It's a Fraser fir, tall and greyish-green and just right for the room. The tree lot was full-service: they used a chainsaw to trim the bottom of the trunk, loaded it into clever netting to keep it compact in the car (and easier to set up), and tied down the trunk for us. If they were any more helpful, they'd have set it up for us, watered it, and put on some ornaments — but that'll be tomorrow.

Tonight, a few celebrations, first at the Archers, then the McKennae. Or that's the plan. To the XmasMobile!

Go Trees!
I am so glad to learn that some Americans still use real trees rather than plastic ones. Go you!

Merry Christmas, Glædelig Jul, and all that.
