Progress Report, plus Cthulhu

Yesterday was one of those grind-it-out writing days, when things aren't a joy but they get done anyway. I completed the Book of Roguish Luck playtest revision on Friday, then ramped up about 3,000 words yesterday including a second draft of Project Snow Goblin, a rework of all the associated maps, and pulling together a magazine article that I'm increasingly thinking should be published under a pseudonym.

In the evening, a fine round of Cthulhu, wrapping up a rather bloody adventure arc. It's a very old scenario (1988 or thereabouts), and I have to admit that it had it's share of plot holes and glitches. But it really didn't matter, as the group laughed at the "Victorian laser sight", lines like "Let's just make it easy and call him Moriarty", and other silliness. A good GM and an entertaining group of players can wring entertainment from even the most ham-fisted scenario, and this one was better than many.

At the finale, poor Constable Morris had an unfortunate moment of hesitation when playing with dynamite, but on the whole, I enjoyed the Gaslight-meets-Sherlock-Holmes craziness. I suspect I'll be running the next set of games; like my last run, it will be set in the pulp 1930s era. Perhaps someday the Pulp Cthulhu book originally promised for May 2003 will actually be published, but I am no longer holding my breath.

I think I'll watch mindless football and clever commercials instead. Go Eagles!

If you have space open the next time you run Call of Cthulhu, I'd love to play. No CoC experience, but plenty of FRP training and I can bring my own shoggoth.
