Progress Notes for Sunday, April 17th

I stepped away from the Internet and the phone and camped out at Suzzalo Hall today, and I cranked out 3,000+ words on the book in about 8 hours. Since I had trouble getting back into it after dinner, I also wrote another 1,000 words for a promotional piece for Book of Roguish Luck. Mind you, I love the promo piece a lot, but at this rate it's going to be 10,000 words long (plus a map!) for a 96-page sourcebook. I'm just saying the folks who go rogue will get their money's worth, is all.

And just because I feel like I'm closing in on the first draft for the book, today I'll break down and display the Book-O-Meter that has infested so many writerly journals lately:

83,500 / 120,000

Feels pretty good. The middle is definitely whipping by at speed. The villain is turning out to be a right bloody bastard, but some of his best villainy is out of sight of the heroes. Not sure how to fix that, other than "they hear about it later".

I'm dropped in lots of notes to myself to go back and fix continuity or sequencing issues, but it's really starting to feel like the two major arcs are working. Plus, I've rewritten chunks of exposition to do double duty in a couple scenes, to help the pacing in the first act.
