Pity West Virginia

I found the most recent of the new state quarters in my change today, with a design approved by a committee from the fine state of West Virginia. I visited Clarksburg with a high school buddy some years back, and I thought the Civil War cemetary quite moving. It's not a bad state, in an impoverished sort of way.

But about the quarter; previous members of the state quarter series have ranged from the inspired (Connecticut's Charter Oak) to the insipid (Indiana's "crossroads") to the merely dull (Michigan and Texas). But pity poor West Virginia. Not only are they still accused today of being an "illegal state", but they have nothing better to show for themselves than the New River Gorge Bridge.

That's right, they best they can do is a bridge. "Lookee here, city slickers, we've built us a bridge just like them Roman fellers." Good grief. That's it? That's all you've got?!

Look, I know you don't have much to work with, but the competition is fierce. Washington State is currently debating between minting an orca, a leaping salmon, or Mount Rainier. Kansas avoided the Wizard of Oz but managed a good-looking bison. Hell, even Mississippi scraped together a really nice design using magnolias. Your lame little pork barrel bridge ain't gonna cut it.

To offer a constructive alternative, let's consider what might have been minted instead. I offer this humble poll to settle the question once and for all.
