World's Greatest Song About Matter

My favorite musical math teacher, the estimable Mr. Tom Lehrer, has been graced with a Flash animation tribute of one of his works, AKA the world's greatest chemistry song. And iron, americium, ruthenium, uranium,
Europium, zirconium, lutetium, vanadium
… Hum along, won't you?

Actually, I do find myself humming "Wernher von Braun" sometimes. Very catchy. And I have to respect the man who — after a critic remarked that a Tom Lehrer concert added up to an evening wasted — gleefully used An Evening Wasted as the title of his next album.

I heard a rumor last night that Lehrer might actually be performing again this year after a 30 year absence from the stage. According to the rumor, he'll even appear in Seattle, but I don't have any details. Anyone?

If you get the videotape that came out to celebrate...
...the birthday of the producer of "Cats!" you can see Tom Lehrer publicly performing "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park." For a guy in his '70's, he's *still* got it as a performer, although the gramma in the store that ran the video when I was in will probably never get over it. Oh, and his claim at the beginning of the song for royalties of 10% of "Cats" based on the earlier success of "Tomfoolery" should be carefully considered...

If you find out, let me know...
Any Tom Lehrer concert in Seattle is one I'd love to attend. If you hear anything, your highness, let me know! I call for a group outing!

it would be worth the trip across the pond just to see that. Tom Lehrer is my /gawd/.

Anyone who gives up a career as a Math Professor at Harvard is good. ;)
