A Young Lady's Primer

Alas, the media jackals at the SciFi channel have acquired the rights to Neal Stephenson's Diamond Age, an excellent volume that deserves better than SF is likely to offer.

However, "Stephenson will adapt his novel for the miniseries, the first time the Hugo and Nebula award winner has written for TV," so perhaps not all is lost. Still, after Earthsea debacle, the Skept-O-Meter is pretty much pegged for all things SciFi.

i worry more about Neil Gaiman's quip about how everyone in Hollywood has to mark their territory, and eventually everything ends up smelling like pee.
i *am* pleased with getting six hours to tell the story.
in many ways it doesn't require big effects budgets, since the world of the Vickys is carefully engineered to appear to be low tech. those costumes and most of the props would be stock rental items.

indeed. most novels just don't fit into a 2-3 hour movie.

Good point on props and costumes. I hope it turns out a raging success; it's one of shellyinseattle's favorite novels.
