After the Launch

Last week was a whirlwind of trying to get the PDF magazine Kobold Quarterly out the door (which I did!), and of sending out subscription copies, and of getting the paper edition through proofs. There's still some issues with the last one, because it's been a while since I did 4-up layout, but it goes on press Monday.

Naturally, any launch is a big life change, kind of like going gold on software only with less staff. It's also one of those "Will anyone show up?" moments that are great for artistic humility but less great for, oh, stress levels or sleep.

Which is all a roundabout way of saying I was up at 2 AM last night writing an essay, not because I was on deadline but because, um, I have forgotten how to sleep. I was much too wound up after the week to wind back down.

How did it go? The early reviews are all positive, though I know there are areas to improve on for issue #2. I actually find that comforting; magazines should always be striving to top their previous issue.

In any case, everything looks better by the light of day. I've got a game set for Monday, and a sunny day today. Off to the lakeshore!

Glad you liked it!

I keep meaning to ask you to do some art for Empire of the Ghouls, and ... well, the moving across oceans etc makes me think you were perhaps mildly busy for a while there. Expect email on this topic soon; I definitely need an old school style artist.

Speaking of the art, I loved the image for the ecology of the derro.
