Small Game Hunting

Turns out the traps I set out haven't caught anything, though I've moved them around to try to catch the mice on their "game trails" in the attic. It's time to step up to poison of the warfarin or D-Con varieties. I'm not crazy about putting poison in the attic, because if a mouse eats it and dies in the back yard, our dog is sure to eat that dead mouse. And that would be a disaster.

Anyone got small game hunting experience? A favorite brand of trap or poison? Exotic mouse hunting mongeese for rent?

Mice? Yikes! I didn't know you were deaing with mice. I'm so sorry. Sadly, the one proven mouser I could have loaned you has gone to the Great Mouse Hunt in the Sky. :(

The problem with poison, of course, is that you could end up with dead mice in the attic or walls, which creates an awful smell. I'm sorry to hear the traps aren't working; I wish I had another solution for you.

In short, my sympathies....

Well, cats really do work well. We have had both mouse problems and rat problems back home in Anacortes, and Cats worked great both times. Took about 2 weeks and they were gone. There is also an "insta-kill" poison out on the market for Rats, don't know if there is for mice, though I would suspect that there is, that kills in less than a minute, so that eliminates the dog problem, but not so much the horrid smell problem (and it is an problem, BTW ;)

BTW, how goes things Wolfgang? ;)

I third the recommendation for cats. A poisoned mouse killed a childhood cat of ours, sniff, and I've had two cats that are rabid mouse-munchers. Also, there is little in this world that smells worse than a rotting rodent. But Shelley is allergic, right? Hmmm...

How about a shotgun loaded with fine birdshot? Small-guage, not enough to blast through the ceiling? Just an idea...
