Midnight Xmas

Arrived home last night to discover a big green wreath on the door, and a conifer that was announced to me with the somewhat disquieting "I have a surprise for you — it's in the car trunk". Maybe I watch too many Mafia movies. In any case, Shelly and I trimmed the trunk, put together the tree stand, centered the tree, strung the lights, and decorated the tree by midnight. The theme is sparkly and white, rather than colorful. I had no idea that this was Shelly's first live tree — she grew up with the kind you store in the attic. I still don't really understand the appeal of plastic trees. Maybe never will.

So, tree, done. Next up, need to find a winter wonderland. On the drive in to work I saw the snow up on Rainier and in the Cascades, which is close enough for me. And of course, RotK is in the theatres, so the holiday season is officially here.

Anyone else ready for the holidays?

Christmas time is here
Ready for the holidays? No.

It's 78 degrees outside today. The cats are using my Christmas tree as shade (they haven't attacked the ornaments yet, which makes me wonder what I've left out of their diets.) I'll be packing for colder climes soon; I'm spending new year's in the snow. Yuck.

Real trees do smell great, don't they?

They do. Do you live in LA or Hawaii, by any chance? Mysterious anonymoose posters.
