Progress & Pot

For whatever reason, the bus continues to be my best mode of revision and writing. The story revisions are almost done, thanks to the commute to and from work today. They go to the editor Monday.

Entering the changes tonight or tomorrow should be a piece of cake, but I worried briefly because the story has ballooned from 4300 words to almost 6000. The new verbiage is all good and useful and supports the narrative, I swear. Everything has gone from "good and funny but obscure" to "finely honed yet over the top." The story's resonances are a lot tighter. Yes, it's a longer, but what the heck, it pays by the word. Dickens and Dumas were verbose bastards for a reason.

Anyway, to top off the week, my genius wife bought a digital crock pot. I didn't know quite what to make of the purchase. I mean, the thing has a label that reads Smart Pot, and that just seems a little too close to the Internet-connected fridge for comfort. Well, consider me a believer. Tonight I came home to a house smelling of slow-cooked onions and paprika, and let me tell ya — a house with a chicken in the pot is a happy house.

Sounds nummy! I love Paprika. I make a nummy Chicken Paprikash, although not with a slow-cooker.

PS. Picked up Bloodspeakers yesterday. Your copy editor needs a beating, but the book is great! More Shahai! :)

Glad you like the book! Yeah, the copy editor was out to lunch, but I'm still happy with most of it: the art is good, the layout is fine, and just overall it feels right.

I'll send a recipe for Chicken Shahai sometime. Maybe I can get "The Shadowlands Cookbook" on the schedule somehow.
