I've always enjoyed the first few bars of a pop song more than any other part; you know, that moment when you think "I know that song, and it's good" but before you really recognize the artist and title. The massive explosion of mash-ups has made that pleasure last a little longer, as the tunes typically mix together two or three

Some of my recent favorites include (audio links):
Instruments of Darkness (Art of Noise vs EtherReal). Technically, more of a remix. Still rox.
Ya Mug (Outkast vs The Streets, approved and legal)
Be My Useless Husband (Nina Simone vs Depeche Mode).

Naturally, there are thousands more, from the Beastles (recently plugged on MeFi) to the weirdnesses of Party Ben's version of Vertigo with U2 vs Way Out West and weird French DJ Zebra disco mashups.

Thanks to Subversive Puppet Show for the reminder, even if I disagree about the value of the Kleptones.

I've been completely digging this stuff since I got my hands on DJ Dangermouse's Grey Album last year. The Beastles is fantastic. I've also been playing the heck out of tunes like Smells Like Billie Jean (Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit with Michael Jackson's Billie Jean), and Crazy Little Fool (The Beatles' Dear Prudence/Fool on the Hill and Queen's Crazy Little Thing Called Love) and Rapture Riders (Blondie's Rapture and The Doors' Riders on the Storm). Fun stuff!
